FAQ’s FOR DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
WHAT MAKES A BUSH FILM FESTIVAL PHOTO?
The only requirements are these: 2 photos are submitted and each photo must have had no prior public screenings, one photo must include the Bush Film Festival Signature Item (2009 AROMA), and second photo must reference to “life in the bush”
WHAT IS THE SIGNATURE ITEM ALL ABOUT
The BSI was introduced to encourage original production, as a result the BSI may heavily inspire some of the photos received and others have only small and sometimes hidden references to it. But of course it all comes down to the interpretation. Bush film Festival tests the creativity of professional and amateur photographers by challenging them to reference BSIs into their photographic entries. It's surprising how photographers may interpret and integrate both the 2009 BSI and “life in the bush”.
WHAT IS THE DEADLINE FOR BUSH FILM FESTIVAL 2009?
The deadline for entries is 5:00pm Monday 9th March 2009. NO EXCEPTIONS.
WHEN IS BUSH FILM FESTIVAL HELD?
Bush film fest is held in mid March. The 2009 festival will be held on Sunday 15th March.
WHAT IS THE BUSH FILM FESTIVAL SIGNATURE ITEM (BSI) FOR 2009?
The 2009 BSI is AROMA. Filmmakers may incorporate the BSI into their film in any way they choose - we strongly encourage a creative interpretation of the word “aroma”!
WHY DOES MY FILM HAVE TO FEATURE THE BSI & HOW CAN I USE IT?
The BSI shows that your photograph was made specifically for the festival - as one of Bush Film Festival aims is to encourage production, not just exhibition. Try to make a photograph that stands on its own feet creatively, and include the BSI as part of the background, or the main focus. |

DO I NEED TO APPLY FOR AN ABN NUMBER/REGISTER FOR THE GST?
If you are submitting your photo for Bush film festival as a hobbyist – i.e. you are not a professional photographer, then it is not a necessity to register for an ABN/GST. If your photo makes it to the finals a staff member will discuss your options with you at this time. This is due to the fact that we distribute the finalist and short listed photos following the festival. This distribution activity may attract a financial return for the filmmaker (albeit limited!). To obtain professional advice with regard to ABN/GST registration, we recommend you contact your accountant or the Australian Taxation Office on 13 28 61.
WHAT RATIO WILL MY PHOTOS BE SCREENED AT?
Bush Film Festival will present all photos on screens in 16:9 ratios. Landscape photos will completely fill the viewing screen however any portrait photos will not. We strongly recommend that photos are submitted in landscape format |
